Helix achieves ISO 14001 certification for its environmental management system - Certification recognises Helix’s comprehensive approach to sustainability across its value chain
- Environmental management system governs Helix’s supply chain, energy, waste management, materials, and design
Milton Keynes, UK, [04 September 2025] – Helix (a trading name of Integral Powertrain Ltd), the UK manufacturer of the world’s most power-dense electric motors and inverters, has been awarded ISO 14001 certification. ISO 14001 is universally recognised as the global gold standard for environmental management systems, which are the set of processes, policies, and procedures that govern operations and environmental impact. Helix’s achievement of ISO 14001 follows a year of dedicated efforts by the company to improve sustainability and ESG practices, including through the establishment of an ESG Steering Group. Helix’s environmental management system is a major part of its sustainability efforts, and a strategic priority for the company. Along with emissions reduction and energy efficiency, Helix is focused on ensuring ethical sourcing for durable, resource-efficient, and recyclable raw materials and inputs. In pursuit of sustainability improvements across the business, Helix has undertaken its first carbon audit to understand its current environmental impact. It has implemented a carbon account system to log its full Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions. To minimise its operating emissions, Helix has installed solar panels and is working to maximise its use of green electricity at its Milton Keynes head office, engineering and manufacturing facilities. Helix is also continually researching and improving its supply chain, waste, and recycling efforts. As a motor manufacturer that is reliant on rare earth minerals for its products, a particular focus is on improving the recyclability of these minerals in its own products and discovering opportunities to include more recycled rare earth minerals in its production process. To this end, over the first half of 2025 Helix has successfully recycled over six tonnes of metal waste, while also making significant improvements in its general waste management practices. Paul Arnold, Environment and Sustainability Manager at Helix, said: “ISO 14001 certification is a great milestone for Helix, and reflects our ongoing commitment to sustainability. We’re continuously searching for ways to improve energy efficiency, reduce waste, and ensure a minimal-impact supply chain. With a robust environmental management system, rigorous data collection, and a culture of continuous improvement, we’re excited to find new ways to improve the sustainability of our operations.” ISO 14001 certification is becoming a key standard across the manufacturing and mobility value chain, with several of Helix’s partners – including Aston Martin, Czinger, Volkswagen and Triumph – having achieved the standard. Through certification of its own environmental management system, Helix can offer its partners improved ESG credibility and compliance. In addition to Helix’s internal ESG projects, the company has also connected with wider industry to further improve sustainability across mobility and manufacturing. Helix has recently participated in the Decarbonising Midlands Aerospace Cluster project, which is working to reduce UK aerospace industrial emissions by 90% by 2050. To find out more click here.
