The industry celebrates excellence at the 2023 Business Excellence Awards

13 October 2023  

The MIA’s annual Business Excellence Awards Dinner in association with AP Racing, took place at the Silverstone Wing on Wednesday 11th October 2023.

The Awards closed the first day of MIA CTS23 – Motorsport Engineering & Technology Show, with 400 guests celebrating winners in seven categories. 

The Business of the Year Award (with annual sales over £5m) partnered by Xtrac, was presented to Delta Cosworth.
Delta Cosworth is the Electrification and System Integration specialists within the Cosworth Group which has over 65 years of engineering experience and motorsport success. Cosworth design, develop and manufacture clean sheet solutions and is a complete propulsion systems provider, no matter how complex the project.


The second Business of the Year Award (with annual sales under £5m) partnered by Multimatic, was presented to KW Special Projects.
KW Special Projects, industry leaders for high-performance and technically challenging projects act as a 'skunk works' for OEMs and have become a key player in niche vehicles and hypercars. Their dedication to innovative engineering solutions and advanced additive manufacturing technologies has fuelled remarkable growth.


The Teamwork Award partnered by Titan, was presented NAPA Racing UK 
What a season for NAPA Racing UK who dominated the 2023 BTCC season in unprecedented style. Winning 16 of the 30 races, 9 out of 10 pole positions and ultimately claiming the Drivers, Teams AND Manufacturers Championship in the process. Their leading driver, Ash Sutton, secured 12 race wins to become the 4-time British Touring Car Champion.


The Technology & Innovation Award partnered by Ricardo, was presented to McMurtry Automotive. 
McMurtry became a six year overnight success after that phenomenal Goodwood record run which featured outstanding innovation and new technology.  At this years  Goodwood, they unveiled the Spéirling PURE, a production electric fan, track-only car and have already sold out of their 2024 production at £820,000 each. This British automotive firm demonstrate an exciting, fast, loud yet efficient, electric future.


The Export Achievement Award partnered by Lifeline Fire & Safety Systems, was presented to Moog. 
Exports represents 35% of Moog’s industrial business from the UK who supply miniature actuation products and solutions to the entire F1 grid, all F1 engine manufacturers, Formula E and WEC Teams. Recently Moog with Cosworth supplied the Honda Automotive Laboratories advanced wind tunnel facility in Ohio (HALO) with an active ride height system for their IndyCar and next generation LMDh sports cars.  


The New Markets Award partnered by Shiftec was presented to M-Sport UK.
M-Sport UK’s state-of-the-art facilities in Cumbria are home to the engineering expertise behind their award-winning competition cars and now performance engines. 
It’s the largest manufacturer of Ford Racing Vehicles across the entire FIA Rally Pyramid and now Rally Raid. It designed and developed powertrains for TOCA’s British Touring Car Championship and now the much-anticipated 500 horsepower, 5.4 litre V8s for the Mustang GT3 racer.  


The Service to the Industry Award presented by AP Racing and was presented to Riches Technical Services. 
Peter Riches has been the ‘Paddock Policeman’ of the British Grand Prix for 35 years as Chief Scrutineer and 30 years as Chief Technical Officer of British Touring Cars. Peter kept British Motorsport safe and legal!


Chris Aylett, CEO of the MIA, when congratulating all winners said "The level of Business Excellence achieved in our motorsport and high-performance industry sets a high, tough standard for others to follow. 2023-24 is full of business opportunities, the MIA will continue supporting and finding new business for our growing membership community.”
