Zircotec expands its Abingdon operation with a dedicated EV and Low- Carbon manufacturing hub

21 June 2022

MIA Member Zircotec have shared the following article.

The Abingdon based thermal management specialist is expanding its manufacturing capability by securing the neighbouring 10,000 square foot facility. The new site will be dedicated to support business growth within the Low-Carbon and Zero-Carbon vehicle sectors. Zircotec’s thermal management technologies have been adopted within a range of EV and Low-Carbon vehicle projects and this trend is expected to continue.

The expansion of Zircotec’s manufacturing facilities will provide much needed increased
production capacity and will initially generate an additional 80 jobs for the local economy. The
company is already recruiting with vacancies ranging from production, manufacturing, sales,
marketing, and engineering.

The Zircotec story began in Motorsport, where its range of patented ceramic coatings and thermal barrier heat shield technologies were adopted at all levels, most notably Formula 1. As a tried, tested, and proven technology on the F1 grid, it was soon adopted by supercar manufacturers such as Ferrari, Lamborghini, and Aston Martin to name just a few, and has since become a staple offering to many performance car manufacturers across the globe.

As the world transitions to vehicle electrification and alternative fuels, Zircotec’s technology has transitioned to address some of the new technical challenges that have been created, with new product streams dedicated to achieving the UK net-zero emission targets.

With funding from the UK Advanced Propulsion Center (APC) and Innovate UK, Zircotec has
worked in commercial partnerships with globally recognized brands such as CNHI (owners of Fiat and Iveco), Cummins Technologies, Ricardo, Borg Warner and Johnson Matthey, developing a range of products and technical offerings applicable to low carbon and zero-carbon vehicles, including hydrogen fueled vehicles.

Graeme Barette, Chief Commercial Officer at Zircotec, said: “We believe in the importance of
supporting emerging and innovative technologies. Our expansion into a new facility dedicated to supporting current and future programmes will contribute to the UK Governments targets of
reducing CO2 emissions from transportation technologies.

Zircotec has benefitted from 40% growth since the start of this year alone, and the continued
development of our diversified client-base will stand us in good stead to achieve our ambitious target of 100% growth by the end of the year. With significant growth planned, we are actively recruiting for a high number of roles. Zircotec aspires to create a training and development academy to support local workers and offer meaningful career paths."
