The MIA celebrates excellence at the 2020 Business Excellence Awards

The MIA’s annual Business Excellence Awards Dinner in association with AP Racing, took place at the NEC Birmingham on Thursday 9th January 2020.
The Awards Dinner closed the first day of Autosport International, Europe's largest pre-season motorsport show, with 400 guests celebrating winners in seven categories.
This year’s Awards Dinner host, Martin Bayfield, former England and British Lions rugby player, presented the seven awards on the night.

The Business of the Year Award (with annual sales over £5m) partnered by Xtrac, was presented to AVL RACING – a privately owned Austrian business that brings seven decades of automotive know-how to the racetrack. The company provides development, simulation, analysis and testing services as well as the highest level of technical support to top levels of motorsport.

The Business of the Year Award (with annual sales under £5m) partnered by Lestercast, was presented to Renvale. With a rich history dating back to 1982, Renvale is the World’s longest standing motorsport wiring harness manufacturer. Designing and producing a completely bespoke solution, they have the ability to produce the most technically challenging and intricate assemblies used in Formula One, Moto GP, Formula E and endurance racing.

The Teamwork Award partnered by Grainger & Worrall, was presented to Mercedes-AMG Petronas Formula One Team - the proud winner of six consecutive Formula One world drivers’ and constructors’ championships. The team heads into 2020 with renewed determination to compete for the titles through teamwork, innovation and technical excellence, and set new records.

The Technology & Innovation Award partnered by Ricardo, was presented to Coryton Advanced Fuels. Coryton apply their world class technical expertise to formulate speciality and performance fuels in support of the powertrain and motorsport industries and lead the way in the formulation of next generation, low carbon fuels.

The Export Achievement Award partnered by Nicholson McLaren Engines, was presented to Grainger & Worrall. Established in 1946 they are now a fourth-generation family firm, turning over more than £60 million with 650 employees.
Overseas markets account for 50% of sales total turnover in Europe, USA, South America and China.
The company is now focusing on emerging markets that require innovative, lightweight casting solutions and have also founded GW, Inc., a technical project office in the US.

The New Markets Award partnered by 920Engineering / Shiftec was presented to Hypermotive – an electrical integration and manufacturing business focussed on motorsport and automotive.
They operate in Electric Vehicle Systems, Wiring Systems and (Hydrogen) Fuel Cell Systems.
Direct introductions by the MIA helped them to create new business in the marine market, applying motorsport electrical engineering to offshore marine craft.

The Service to the Industry Award partnered by WMG was presented to The Grand Prix Trust. At Formula One turns 70, for half that time The Grand Prix Trust has provided support and where appropriate funding, for F1 personnel who find themselves in difficulty. Now GP Trust offers the same support to those employed across the whole UK motorsport industry.
Chris Aylett, CEO of the MIA, when congratulating all winners said "The level of Business Excellence you have achieved really sets a high, tough standard for others to follow – well done everyone. 2020 will be full of challenges but I’m confident our motorsport industry will successfully overcome these as always."
