Partner Spotlight

McLaren Applied - in collaboration with technical partner Transense - has been delivering torque sensing solutions to professional motorsport series to facilitate balance of performance and monitor powertrain performance for over 10 years.

Its next generation SAW (Surface Acoustic Wave) Torque System has been successfully delivered to a leading motorsport client, who will mandate the part across all entrants. This next generation product is designed specifically for the series’ new hybrid era, which will debut in 2024.

The system is suitable for measuring torque in any shaft and for both gearbox input shaft and driveshaft applications. The new torque sensor is a non-contact measurement device based on SAW technology. SAW-based sensors are small, lightweight, robust and provide accurate wireless measurement. Each shaft is supplied with a calibration file and is actively thermally compensated over its operating temperature range, further improving precision.
