The Light Aircraft Association is recruiting an Engineering Director

21 May 2021

Based Brackley, Northants.

The Role

The role is to provide technical and managerial leadership to the LAA Engineering Team. This will supplement the existing team of HQ based design and airworthiness engineers and supports the large team of geographically dispersed, self-employed inspectors reporting to the Chief Inspector.

The aim is to maintain the excellent, low-cost service to LAA members and provide board level technical expertise to the CEO and the LAA directors.

The Candidate

The LAA has a critical role in ensuring that safety standards are maintained in the dynamic, diverse, and growing recreational aviation sector.
The candidate must have a proven track record of successfully managing engineering disciplines within a highly regulated environment. Recent experience of performing this function in a light aircraft environment will be a distinct advantage, as will direct experience of the UK Permit to Fly regime.

The successful candidate will have had experience in delivering successful change management and have developed a high degree of interpersonal skills, especially sound communication, negotiation and influencing skills. A practiced motivator and leader, the candidate will have identified and developed staff for succession planning. This position requires strong analytical skills and a good understanding of the IT systems needed to support LAA engineering activities.
