Attention- If you trade with Canada or Mexico submit your input to Department of International Trade
21 May 2021
The MIA works closely with the Department for International Trade (DIT) and they have agreed to get input from Members ahead of the many Free Trade Agreement negotiations underway.
Their current request focusses on those who trade with Canada and Mexico, negotiations will start later this year. These Calls for Input will be open for 8 weeks from May 18th to July 12th.
In December last year, the UK signed Trade Continuity Agreements (TCAs) with both Canada and Mexico which replicated, as far as possible, the effect of EU trade agreements with those markets to ensure continuity for business.
DIT agreed, with both Canada and Mexico, to begin negotiations to upgrade UK trade arrangements within one year of putting the TCAs in force. Discussions will start in 2021 and hopefully will conclude with new agreements within the next two years.
DIT’s approach to Free Trade Agreements, and their provisions, is informed by business needs. As part of this Canada and Mexico Call for Input they want MIA members to highlight those areas of the TCAs they should keep in renegotiations as well as those aspects of current trading arrangements they should improve or amend.
If this of interest to you and your business with Canada and Mexico, then please respond to the Call for Input on gov.uk using this link.
