Please find below updates relating to the Government’s preparations for leaving the EU and other key information.
1. New funding available to help businesses that complete customs declarations
Businesses can now apply for funding towards hiring new staff to help your business complete customs declarations. More information on the grants available for recruitment, training and IT improvements for businesses completing customs declarations can be accessed here.
2. How to prepare for Brexit… videos
BEIS and HMRC has released a series of short videos to help businesses prepare for Brexit. The topics covered include travelling for business, using a customs agent, company mergers, exporting to the EU and selling manufactured goods on the EU market.
3. DIT’s Brexit Preparedness Workshops for businesses
DIT is running a series of events to help exporters to get ready for Brexit. These events will be particularly useful for businesses exporting to the EU, and will provide businesses with an opportunity to develop a personalised action plan for Brexit preparedness. Topics covered include impact to supply chains, changes to regulations and contracts, where to find tariff information, and what they might need to say to customers and employees, among other topics. 4. Helping hauliers prepare for Brexit
The Department for Transport is setting up information pop-up stands across the UK and Europe to help hauliers and businesses prepare for Brexit, so that goods can continue to flow smoothly through ports. The pop-ups will be located at ports, service stations and on ferries to provide easily accessible advice, helping hauliers understand the documentation they need for themselves, their vehicles and their goods after Brexit.
All stands will be staffed by multilingual advisors.
5. HMRC Border Delivery Group seminars for EU-based businesses
If you are an EU based business trading goods to or via the UK, sign up to a webinar led by the HMRC Border Delivery Group to receive guidance and information on the steps you may need to take before 31 October. Presentations will include information on border preparedness, customs procedures at the border, relevant sector-specific content and a Q&A session. Automotive webinars will be held every Friday at 8 am until 21 October, and each webinar will last for 90 minutes. Registered participants will have the opportunity to submit questions to the BDG in advance of the webinars.

6. ‘Get Ready for Brexit’ campaign – Upcoming roadshows
Join us at a free Brexit Business Readiness Event in your area to meet government advisers and to find out what actions your business needs to take to prepare. The events will combine a keynote address, interactive support, advice stands and in-depth sessions led by subject matter experts. They will provide you with specific business-focused advice and help.
Week commencing 7 October:
• Monday 7 October - Derry/Londonderry
• Monday 7 October - Cambridge
• Tuesday 8 October - Belfast
• Tuesday 8 October - Ipswich
• Wednesday 9 October - Newcastle upon Tyne
• Friday 10 October - Carlisle
In most locations we will run sessions in both the morning and afternoon:
• Morning - 09:00 - 11.30
• Afternoon - 13:00 - 15.30
In addition, the government has prepared key messages that will help promote these events on your own channels, including social, newsletters, web stories and direct emails.
