David Coulthard talks diversity at global sport business conference, 'Leaders Week'

London, Thursday October 3, 2019 – W Series Advisory Board Chairman, and former Formula 1 star, David Coulthard, will address delegates at the global sports business conference, Leaders Week, on Monday October 7, as part of a discussion session concentrating on diversity within sport.
Coulthard, a 13-time Formula 1 Grand Prix winner, will kick off Leaders Week at a special Leaders Meet: Diversity event at Stamford Bridge, the home of Chelsea FC, and will discuss the importance of diversity within motorsport and the success of W Series in its debut season.
W Series, the international single-seater championship for female drivers only, will have a major presence at the event, which will be attended by Chairman, Sean Wadsworth, and CEO, Catherine Bond Muir, as well as drivers, Sarah Moore and Naomi Schiff. In addition to a display of the 2019 W Series race car, there will also be racing simulators available for delegates to test their virtual race-driving skills.
“Our first season exceeded all our wildest expectations,” said Catherine Bond Muir, “not only in terms of the standard of competition and racing, but also in terms of our overall reception on the global motorsport stage. We have a great sports business story to tell and Leaders is the best place for us to tell it.”
W Series, which aims to fast-track women to the highest levels of professional motorsport, was launched in October 2018, and its first calendar of races was broadcast to 315 million households in 112 global territories including Europe, Asia, USA, Scandinavia and Russia. Its unique personality-driven format and compelling racing have also fascinated the world’s media – more than 6,500 individual pieces of coverage have been posted, with a total global reach beyond 4.7 billion and a value in excess of £213 million.
For the 2020 season, W Series is expecting to expand its six-race 2019 calendar, remaining committed to partner series DTM, although full details will not be announced until later this year. The momentum of 2019 will accelerate with the addition of new circuits, new drivers and new battles, and the promise of new audiences, new partners and new sponsors.
