MIA and PRI 2019
30 August 2019

A statement from Chris Aylett, CEO of the MIA
“For the first time in 20 years, due to the withdrawal of funding from the UK’s Department of International Trade (DIT) which has, since the outset, underpinned the cost of delivering a UK Motorsport Business Centre, at the heart of PRI, the MIA will not be present at this year’s show. We are disappointed and surprised by this decision and have made our feelings known on behalf of our industry.
The MIA recognises the opportunities to grow business in the USA and will continue to do all it can to help UK companies using our liaison offices in Charlotte and Detroit but without a reasonable level of funding support from DIT this will be increasingly difficult which, at this time, is truly regrettable. Currently, we have secured for UK companies £2,000 TAP grants for PRI from DIT and we will service these as required.
Building business in the USA with DIT support has been an outstanding success over many years helping UK businesses to secure many millions of pounds worth of motorsport exports and UK investments into the USA which consolidate and increase export sales. We expect shortly to hear of major business wins by UK companies, a reward for their outstanding efforts and the work of the MIA to encourage and facilitate UK suppliers to this market opportunity."
