British GT Sees record 38-car grid for 2019

The 2019 British GT Championship will be contested by a grid of 38 cars this year, the largest number of entries in its 27 year history.

Although one-off entries have occasionally resulted in larger grids at specific events, this year's full-season total across GT3, GTC and GT4 is the largest since the Championship began in 1993.

Benjamin Franassovici, British GT Championship general manager said, "The response from existing and new teams and drivers has once again surpassed our expectations. We previously limited ourselves to a maximum of 36 full-season entries but the unprecedented level of demand since registration opened last October has required us to re-evaluate."

On the first day of testing at Donington Park on March 5, the pace setters in GT3 were: Barwell Motorsport which is running a Lamborghini Huracan driven by Phil Keen and Adam Balon; Century Motorsport, whose BMW M6 is being driven this season by Dominic Paul and Ben Green, and Ram Racing, whose Mercedes AMG is in the hands of Ian Loggie and Callum Macleon in 2019.

Meanwhile, the pace setters in GT4 were Team Parker Racing, Multimatic Motorsports and Balfe Motorsports. 

Team Parker's Nick Jones and Scott Malvern are driving a Mercedes-AMG GT4 this season, while Multimatic Sport has Scott Maxwell and son of multiple-TCC champion Andy Prilaux, Seb Prilaux, at the wheel of its Ford Mustang GT4.
