To open the year, mso delve into a couple of stories that created a lot of newspaper inches but the real impact is harder to gauge. Internet giant, Google, is using all its persuasive tricks to get us sign up to its social network, Google+, but is it really worth the effort? Any new marketing technique takes up time and ever valuable resources so mso take a measured view on whether there’s enough longevity, in yet another social media trend, for the average UK business.

The second article has potentially more serious consequences: Wikipedia staged a 24 hour protest against proposed US legislation against anti-piracy. It created a media storm but now that has died down what are the real threats for businesses the other side of the ‘pond’.
