Morgan cements continued success of MIA M2Auto Initiative

07 Mar 2013

The Motorsport Industry Association (MIA) continues its successful initiative which brings together the motorsport and automotive industries by hosting a major business networking event at Morgan Motor Company on 20th March 2013. The event will see more than double the amount of delegates than have previously attended similar initiatives.

The Morgan event forms part of the MIA’s ground-breaking motorsport to automotive (M2Auto) business growth initiative which is sponsored by Cosworth, Jonathan Lee, Millers Oils and Xtrac. It aims to encourage engineers to get together and share best practice and look of ways of working together across the different sectors. The event at Morgan is the latest in a long line of extremely popular activities organised for MIA members.

2013’s calendar was kick-started by Bentley, the MIA’s first OEM automotive manufacturer member, hosting a similar event at its facility in Crewe on 17 January 2013, which saw 25 per cent of Bentley’s engineering department attend. During the day MIA members showcased their engineering capability to the Bentley engineers, and discussed their engineering solutions in R&D prototypes, lightweight materials and wider solutions, including chassis, brakes, suspension and low-carbon developments.

The Morgan event looks to be just as successful with member companies being able to participate in an afternoon of networking before being given a unique tour of the factory and museum. The tour will take delegates to see Morgan’s skilled craftsmen at work as they hand make bespoke sports cars using a combination of traditional car manufacturing and cutting edge technology.

Chris Aylett, chief executive of the MIA, said: “Mainstream automotive OEMs are often very difficult for SME’s to reach, as many don’t fit their supply chain requirement. Our series of M2Auto showcase events provide an environment in which like-minded engineers can get together and talk. The popularity of this event and the previous one at Bentley is testament to the growing interest and growth into the automotive sector by motorsport companies.”
